Airside operations manager Dave Cran steels himself for a busy night that will see a team of workers attempt to shorten the runway by a third at the same time as 25 planes are due to land and take off. Meanwhile, the rangers go on the offensive against bird strikes, and dispatcher Julie does battle with the fog.

We meet the ecologist making the airport as environmentally friendly as possible - but is there more that could be done to make the airport greener? We also pay a visit to Stansted's queen of clean, who is keeping everything spick and span at the grand old age of 78.
